Is Wright Right?
Soundbytes are not usually fair representations of significant issues and always inappropriate when used out of context. He who has ears to hear, let him hear what these two pastors are saying:
followed by this…
Now that you’ve heard more from these pulpits, does that change your perspective? One is Obama’s pastor. One is McCain’s spiritual advisor. If only Obama would change his position on abortion, then he would at least be consistent with the overall message given by these ministers. I’ve got to admit, that while I feel very blessed to be an American, I also don’t always feel that America deserves God’s blessing. I think most people can understand that distinction. After watching these longer clips, I’m reminded of the necessity for prayer on my knees, ”God save America.”
Your Best Life Later
Joel Osteen has an extremely popular book called “Your Best Life Now.”
But what about the next life after this life?
When it comes to our eternal souls and the next life, Joel bombed a huge opportunity on the Larry King Live show to share the Truth and the good news of Jesus Christ with all those viewers!!! Amazingly, Joel Olsteen, pastor of America’s largest evangelical Christian congregation, seemed downright afraid to speak the truth! (”But keep buying my books & keep those tithes, gifts, and offerings coming!”)
The Apostle Paul declared: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” –Romans 1:16
“Neither is there any salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” –Acts 4:12
You and I my friend, are both one day closer to kicking the bucket than we were yesterday. Certainly, this life is important and we should try to make the most of it, but your life will be only wasted if you are not prepared for the all-important life hereafter.
His Grace is Amazing
Sometimes it is difficult to find proper perspective in life. But every once in a while I’ll go outside and gaze at the stars. Have you ever done that? It’s a great way to readjust your perspective. And as I stare out into the vast creation, I begin to wonder why God loves us? Why does He even bother?
In many ways, this world and this life are insignificant. But when I look at this crazy old world, I’m so thankful for His Word, that I know Him, and that He has saved me.
God’s grace is truly amazing.
Defining Love
At a Christian university I attended, I was blessed in class during the devotional time one day to hear the testimony of a fellow student who left the homosexual lifestyle by the grace of God. His most powerful remarks challenged the politically correct notion that no one should question the love that same-sex couples may have for each other. You could’ve heard a pin drop as he read God’s definition of love in I Corinthians 13:
4) Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;
5) does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil;
6) does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth;
7) bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8a) Love never fails.
He closed stating emphatically that there is NOTHING resembling true love—God’s definition of love—in the homosexual lifestyle!
And he’s right. Praise God for that testimony! But I’ll preach a step further because in our sex-crazed culture many heterosexual relationships have no idea what true, Biblical, sacrificial love is either. That’s partly why so many families are falling apart. The world needs love; God’s love. And God is calling His people to take a stand and take back and redeem the secular definitions of love, marriage and family for His glory!
