If God is a God of Love…

First, “Why is there a Hell?” and second, “Why does evil happen?” (Probably the two most frequent questions.)

I suggest that God would not be a God of love without Hell. What kind of a loving god would allow the evil and the injustice in this world go unpunished? That wouldn’t be a loving god. But God loves us so much that He has created a very terrible, inescapable place to punish evil and injustice—FOREVER.

And why does evil happen? Because evil is a mirror that shows us ourselves. It shows us who we really are. It shows us that we need God and the saving grace of Jesus Christ. Each of us is lost in our sinful nature. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us,” (Romans 5:8 NKJ). God loves us enough to provide a way to be redeemed from our sinful natures through Jesus Christ. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life,” (John 3:16 NKJ).

When tragedy strikes, remember that God loves each of us deeply. He loves us enough to avenge evil. And He loves us enough to free us from the same sinful natures that make us capable of evil. God is love. And in Him we find hope.
