Family Man McCain

In an article entitled, Getting to Know John McCain, Karl Rove writes about Cindy and John McCain’s decision to adopt a child from one of Mother Teresa’s orphanages.

“…in 1991 Cindy McCain was visiting Mother Teresa’s orphanage in Bangladesh when a dying infant was thrust into her hands. The orphanage could not provide the medical care needed to save her life, so Mrs. McCain brought the child home to America with her. She was met at the airport by her husband, who asked what all this was about.

Mrs. McCain replied that the child desperately needed surgery and years of rehabilitation. “I hope she can stay with us,” she told her husband. Mr. McCain agreed. Today that child is their teenage daughter Bridget.

I was aware of this story. What I did not know, and what I learned from Doris, is that there was a second infant Mrs. McCain brought back. She ended up being adopted by a young McCain aide and his wife.

“We were called at midnight by Cindy,” Wes Gullett remembers, and “five days later we met our new daughter Nicki at the L.A. airport wearing the only clothing Cindy could find on the trip back, a 7-Up T-shirt she bought in the Bangkok airport.” Today, Nicki is a high school sophomore. Mr. Gullett told me, “I never saw a hospital bill” for her care.”

A few things not mentioned in Karl Rove’s article about Cindy McCain is that after earning a Masters in Special Education at the University of Southern California she became a special needs teacher. She has also founded and supported many very worthy charities including American Voluntary Medical Team (AVMT) which brought emergency medical relief to countries all over the world.

Another organization she founded is the Hensley Family Foundation, which donates monies towards children’s programs in Arizona and nationally. And she has been a longtime active volunteer in an organization called Operation Smile, a nonprofit organization that has been repairing child and young adult cleft palates and cleft lips in countries around the globe.

Hat Tip: Unborn Word of the Day

I’ll add that unlike President Bush, Barack Obama, or Hillary Clinton, John McCain actually has a son fighting on the ground in Iraq.  I think this speaks volumes to McCain’s understanding of the very real issues facing our national interests down to the very personal issues many military families and others deal with every day.  McCain has much more experience than just “Washington experience,” and it shows.  His adult children from his previous marriage very much admire him.

This is another aspect that the general public doesn’t know about McCain. McCain has a lot of very special things about him that make him a unique candidate and I’m afraid that he isn’t touting them very well.

For instance, the majority of the American people don’t know anything else about McCain’s service than he was shot down in battle. That is really a shame. McCain’s POW story is probably one of the most powerful and moving stories of any American living today.

I’m not exactly sure how his campaign can get the word out about this stuff to the general public, but they need to.

Where’s the rest of his family? He has 3 more kids. Oh that’s right, the conservative Christian world pretends their own skeletons don’t exist. Continue to live in your closets then.

I can only assume that you must be referring to McCain’s divorce years ago. The picture above is what I readily found. McCain has no problem sharing information about all seven of his “kids” with you and anyone else who cares to visit

Sorry to disappoint you. No pretending here!

What if things were switched around…..think about it.

How is racism in America affecting our citizenry’s perception of the candidates? Would the country’s collective point of view be different? Could racism be the culprit?

I think that is the wrong question. Racism has nothing to do with the state of the current election (Obama handidly won his party’s primary) and besides, Sen. Obama is leading in the polls right now. The real significant question is whether Obama would still be leading–not if he were white–but if he was conservative? I believe Obama would be up 20 or 30 percent in current polling if he was a strong conservative vs. a liberal McCain. This election is about good ideas and leadership–not racism.

    Ponder the following:

What if the Obamas had paraded five children across the stage, including a three month old infant and an unwed, pregnant teenage daughter?
What if John McCain was a former president of the Harvard Law Review?
What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?
What if McCain had only married once, and Obama was a divorcee?
What if Obama was the candidate who left his first wife after a severedisfiguring car accident, when she no longer measured up to his standards?
What if Obama had met his second wife in a bar and had a long affair while hewas still married?
What if Michelle Obama was the wife who not only became addicted to painkillers but also acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?
What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard?
What if Obama had been a member of the Keating Five? (The Keating Five werefive United States Senators accused of corruption in 1989, igniting a major political scandal as part of the larger Savings and Loan crisis of the late1980s and early 1990s.)
What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?
What if Obama couldn’t read from a teleprompter?
What if Obama was the one who had military experience that included discipline problems and a record of crashing seven planes?
What if Obama was the one who was known to display publicly, on many occasions,a serious anger management problem?
What if Michelle Obama’s family had made their money from beer distribution?
What if the Obamas had adopted a white child?

You could easily add to this list. If these questions reflected reality, [do you] really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

Why not? Your premise is that EVERYTHING is switched. So McCain would have run as a candidate for the socialist New Party in Illinios; attended Rev. Wright’s church fo 20 years; associated with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers; worked for ACORN; experimented with illegal drugs; have minimal life experience running anything much less a country; be planning to spread the wealth to people who may not have earned it; and abandoning the new Democracy of Iraq, etc.

This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes positive qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative qualities in another when there is a color difference.

Again, you assume that if Sen. Obama was “white” that he would be enjoying even larger gains in recent polling without any credible support for your assumption. The ironic thing is that Sen. Obama IS leading in the current polls so your reasoning is curious. In fact, the underlying point is that you think conservatives must be racist if they do not support Obama. If you intended that–then please explain how liberals are not sexist for not supporting Hillary more.

    Educational Background:

    Barack Obama:
Columbia University – B.A. Political Science witha Specialization in
    International Relations.
Harvard – Juris Doctor (J.D.) Magna Cum Laude

George Bush went to Yale. Do Ivy League credentials mean you are the best?

    Joseph Biden:
University of Delaware – B.A. in History and B.A. inPolitical Science.
Syracuse University Collegeof Law – Juris Doctor (J.D.)

Don’t forget to mention that Biden got in trouble for cheating.

    John McCain:
United States Naval Academy – Class rank: 894 of 899

Wow. I guess you don’t have to have Ivy League credentials to be successful after all!

    Sarah Palin:
Hawaii Pacific University – 1 semester
North Idaho College – 2 semesters – general study
University of Idaho – 2 semesters – journalism
    Matanuska-Susitn a College – 1 semester
University of Idaho – 3 semesters – B.A. in Journalism

What elite law school did Abraham Lincoln attend? It’s unfortunate that leadership roles are reserved for the privileged few who attend the most expensive schools in your way of thinking.

Education isn’t everything, but this is about the two highest offices in the land as well as our standing in the world. There has to be a reason that, in spite of the above, we are where we are
today. Racism is one of the keys.

I agree that education isn’t everything. But this election is about Liberal and Conservative ideas and Obama is not as popular as he could be simply because he’s a far-left liberal. Period.
