Obama Pushed Iraq to Delay Troop Withdrawals

[An] attempt to subvert the executive branch would be contrary to established U.S. foreign policy. If Zebari’s statements are discovered to be true, Obama would be guilty of the most unadulterated political profiteering and moral corruption in modern history. To seek electoral gain on the deception of a nation at war and the blood of American soldiers is nothing less than treasonous villainy….

Alaska: No Small Task

Before you dismiss the fact that Sarah Palin is Commander of the Alaska National Guard, consider this:

Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It’s on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.

As governor of Alaska , Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counter-terrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden’s and certainly by far exceeds Obama’s.

She’s also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security’s counter-terrorism plans.

Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country’s defense. Given Alaska ‘s proximity to Russia, she may have security clearances we don’t even know about. According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets.

She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is. . . . her experience in keeping the homeland safe fits perfectly with her image as the competent American woman.

Compare her Experience and Resume with the Messiah Obama’s???

Governor Palin, Commander in Chief Already, wins hands down.

Good to know.  The more I learn about Palin, the more I like her.  Did you know that if you divide Alaska in half, Texas would then be the third largest state?  Think about it.  –Jay

A Tale of Two Half Brothers: Barack & George Obama

…[W]hy aren’t the networks covering the fact that Barack Obama’s half-brother George lives in a 6 by 10 foot hut in the slums of Kenya?  It took a reporter for the Italian edition of Vanity Fairto locate George Obama. Obama noted that when he met his famous half-brother in 2006 “we spoke for just a few minutes.   It was like meeting a complete stranger.” George Obama also told the magazine that “I live here on less than a dollar month,”  and “if anyone says something about my surname, I say we are not related. I am ashamed.”  Obama has done absolutely nothing to help his unfortunate half-brother.

I found this story interesting, but I’m not quite sure it shows hypocrisy on the part of Barack Obama.  Maybe if they were brothers who grew up together, but they have different mothers and it appears to me that they did not meet until a couple years ago even though they share the same father.  While I disagree with many of Sen. Obama’s policies and political ideology, there is much to commend him for in his young political career.

Sen. Obama is correct to say that no where else in the world could his story be possible.  Of course, the same could be said for Sen. McCain & Gov. Palin as well.  America is blessed beyond measure, despite her imperfections.  Her people and her Christian foundations and her work ethic have made us the most prosperous nation in the history of the world despite the current “struggling” economy and all — so I cringe when I hear politicians say things like “it’s time to chart a new course.”

Sure, we need to stop wasting our resources and end our dependence on unfriendly nations and their resources.  We need to find ways to meet the challenges ahead.  But we need not forget that America is still the envy of the world.  We have amazing freedom.  And we have become numb to our own wealth and prosperity.  People risk life and limb to reach our shores to breathe freedom’s air even if it means living in “poverty” by our own standards.  And if for one moment we might think that America is a disgrace and an embarrassment and an experiment gone terribly wrong, all we need to do is have a conversation with someone like George Obama.

The Candidates Call Each Other’s Bluff

Throughout this historic campaign the Republicans have highlighted Senator Barack Obama’s obvious lack of experience—especially on foreign affairs and national security issues.  This fact has also appeared to be a very effective argument.  And so in the first major decision of Obama’s young, national political career he reached out and tapped fellow senior, thirty-plus-year-veteran Senator Joe Biden for the number two spot to bolster the perception of experience.

“Take that John McCain!”

But the “inexperience” argument still holds some persuasive power, or at least it did.  Enter: young Governor Sarah Palin.  “What!?”  “Who?”  Now Democrats are crying “foul” on McCain’s new vice-presidential pick.  “Oh, the hypocrisy!” they sneer.  Even Republicans quietly wonder to themselves why McCain would risk disarming their favorite handy “inexperience” argument?  Because McCain got what he wanted all along.  (Get ready for it!)  In a stroke of political genius, McCain has single-handedly dismantled Obama’s strongest argument against McCain—Obama being the candidate of change!

“Take that Barack Obama!”

The maverick McCain/Palin ticket doesn’t look or feel close to anything like Bush/Cheney or even the Obama/Biden ticket.  The first female conservative VP in 232 years of America’s history!  Obama’s entire “change” theme and brand has suffered a huge blow and has its own hypocrisy problem.  Sure, Obama has rightly earned a significant place in history, but his decision to “ignore women” for the most part and stick with another old “safe” liberal white guy for VP is going to haunt his dreams until election day and quite possibly beyond.

And so now this entire political process is right back to square one.  The two candidates have called each other’s bluff.  “Change” and “inexperience” are pretty much off the table (except for the nagging historical fact that Presidental and Vice-Presidential qualifications don’t usually equate).  These campaigns are now forced to refocus on the issues that voters care about most: strong families, strong country, and real opportunity to get a piece of the American dream and who has the best plan to lead us there.

Brass Tacks: The Tax Plan Details

Presidential Candidates Offer New Tax Policies

With the Democrat and Republican Conventions nominating their Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates, the fall political season will soon be in full swing. The campaigns of both Senators Obama and McCain have released proposals that state their positions on taxes.

While the tax proposals are inevitably changing as the campaigns progress, there is a clear difference in their underlying perspectives. It is helpful to examine the “What Will I Pay” question by comparing the two plans. The Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center has attempted to compare the tax liability for individuals based on the Obama and McCain proposals.

Determining personal taxes is a somewhat complicated issue, but the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center has attempted to compare the result if the major proposals of both candidates were implemented. One of the published reports compares the Obama and McCain tax plans for a family of two parents and two dependent children.

Assume that this family of four is called USA Family. With an income of $50,000, the TPC estimates that USA Family saves $647 under the Obama Plan and $721 with the McCain plan.

If USA Family’s income is $100,000, then the savings under Sen. Obama’s plan is $1,883 and for the McCain plan $3,085. With USA Family income of $150,000, the Obama tax cut is $3,393 and the McCain plan is the same.

If USA Family has still higher income, the Obama plan involves a tax increase. The $500,000 income USA Family pays $6,727 more in tax under the Obama plan and has no change under the McCain plan. Finally, a USA Family with income of $1 million would pay an added $42,715 under the Obama plan and be unchanged under the McCain plan.
